The old man enjoyed the warm water being played over his body by the old woman with a garden hose. His contractor and he had installed the black plastic tank on the roof the week before, connected it to the well and house water system and pumped it full of water. After a week in the sun during 90+ afternoons the water was just right for a warm shower. They stood on the back deck, first floor, where no one could see them. It was the old man's first shower at the new house and it felt really good. The old woman enjoyed hosing him down. He dried off and they went up the the bedroom where he dressed in shorts and they went out onto the deck, second story, to admire the view as the sun descended to the horizen, and to enjoy the breeze. The newly installed handrailing gave the deck a defining feel.

Now that was a sobering picture thet came to mind! Them pasty white legs jest about blinded me! Good thing ya got a high wall around yer place, too!

Kinda reminds me of taking bucket showers in the greenhouse at our place in the bush. The temps would be 80-90F in the greenhouse and 50F outside in the sun.

The house is nearly done. But we are still wrangling with the Federal Commission of Electricity to run a line down our private street. They have promised that we will have electricity, but we don't know when. We started in September with them.
Even if we get electric this month, we have two groups coming to work on a church building at the end of june and will last into the third week in July. So it will be by the end of July if the Lord is willing.

The old man turned from his work and invited the old woman to come and admire it. She asked if she could be the first one to actuate it and he assented.
So she pushed the lever down and the toilet flushed, extremely well in fact, because it was a super flusher. They both smiled as the tank began to fill automatically.
The old man was not a plumber, so all this was quite an accomplishment for him.
Another step in the direction of living there. It was now two years into building the house.

The old man stepped into the shower in the master bedroom and turned on the shower. He was rewarded with a gravity flow of cool water, (water heater not installed yet) the water quickly turned quite warm for about a minute. It was the water in the plastic water line coming from the tank on the roof that had been in the sun all afternoon. but when the water from the tank reached the old man it was cool again, (the sun does noit heat the tank on the roof with much efficiency during the rainy season) but, all in all, it was a good shower for the first time in his very own shower stall.
Again, he is not a plumber, and figuring out how to hook up the regulater for the shower was a real feat.

The old man, having plugged in his 9 watt LED bulb to the inverter plugged into the cigarrete lighter in the car, opened the door to the cabinet beside the range, pulled out the sliding shelf and selected the smallest sauce pan, pushed in the shelf and closed the door. He then used his agate covered camp cup to measure and pour three cups of purified water into the pan. He reached for the matches, lit one and pushed in the knob for a front burner and placed the burning match next to it. He was rewarded by a bright blue flame. He set the pan on the grate while he reached for his cast iron fry pan. He had promised the old woman that he would clean the soot off it from all those campfires since December. He did this. By the time the outside of the fry pan was ready the water was boiling in the pan. He decided that gas is much hotter than pine wood fire. He poured the water over the bin in the electric perculator and in a few seconds was able to pour his coffee in the camp cup over sugar and creamer. After stirring he placed the cup on the tile on the island. He had added olive oil to the fry pan and it was now ready for his eggs. After putting together his egg sandwich he ate standing up at the island. The old woman will need to select some tall chairs for the island soon. He knew that one day he would build a fire on the back porch again just for the fun of it. But the gas range and staying in the kitchen to cook and eat sure saved time in the morning.

The old man got sleepy around 11PM and put on some shoes to go down to the car and turn off the key and lock it for the night. When he turned off the key the little invertir plugged into the cigarette lighter stopped its squeel and the light in the bedroom went out. He closed and locked the car door and took the three steps to the porch. The welt of his left shoe didn't quite make it over top the 8 inch step to the porch floor. He struggled mightilly to keep his balance, and failed. He felt like he was in a fight as he went down hard on his left cheek right behind the hip bone. This was on Monday nite. He suffered through the night restlessly, and worked for about six hours the next day before leaving for the house he and the old woman shared until they could have the solar power installed on their new house. He rested a lot on Wednesday and a small black and blue spot appeared on his left cheek. He worked Thursday and friday at the house and was careful thursday night not to repeat the act of Monday night. saturday morning at the other house he got out of bed to got to the bathroom and the old woman let out a gasp and told him to look at his butt in the mirror. He gasped too, as he looked at a black spot as big as his hand. While he was feeling much better it still felt like he was sitting on the edge of a board. He was glad he had not landed on bone. That could have broken.
He was tempted to take a pic and publish it for all to see, but realized that NOBODY would want to see it.

The old man turned on the three LED light fixture over the sink in the master bath and then turned on the hot water in the shower. Because he had just installed the water heater on the wall outside the shower and lit the gas burner in it, in a few seconds he had hot water. He smiled. No more cold showers. When he was done, dried and dressed, he went downstairs and asked the old woman, who was watching a DVD of Litle House on the television, when she would shower. She thought maybe in the morning. He told her he would turn up the heat for her before her shower. He had discovered that that would give a better shower. She agreed.

PS. The solar power system has been working perfectly since Wednesday, For which we PRAISE THE LORD. It is an island system and is not connected in any way to the lines that the Federal Commision of Elctricity has not yet put down our street. As I write this the inverter is giving us 120 volts AC from the twenty battery group that stores the electricity that the panels provide during the day.

The old woman, however, did not enjoy her shower this morning. First she thought the water would not get hot. Then the old man tried it and it was hot almost immediately. Then she was not able to to get the temp adjusted to her likeing. The old man told her to 'play with it till you get it right', and went downstairs to make his breakfast. She reminded him later that she really wanted a tub.
The flow is anemic because of the gravity flow feed. What the old man does not understand is why he can't buy a valve group or a shower head designed for gravity flow in a country where almost everyone has gravity flow.
