While I don't wear shoes, per se, I do wear soft sole mocs and shoepacks. I quickly learned to take short, kinda quick, choppy steps in mud or on hillsides.

Haven't fallen in a long time, but have slipped a time or two...mostly mentally. Big Grin

God bless

A quick easy fix is to wrap a leather 'wang' around each foot, twoce around the sole and once around the ankle. Tie them of anyway you like, but these should grab on any surface. One note: if you are spending most of your time on concrete or tarmac, they will wear out fast.

I bet you sorta wondered why you were carrying those strips of leather, weren't you?

hi Rwiegard wellcome to the fire i really concure with was you say tie some leather wangs or as i have done iv'e use 1/4 inch cotton cord/rope instead of leather and it works just as good or better plus i would like to save my wangs for something more important and the rope is alot cheaper keep the powder dry and the blade sharp Charlie

Years ago this question was asked and someone answered to just make some lines across the soles with Shoo Goo and let them dry...instant traction soles!

I recently came across some non-slip sole pieces made by Kiwi (the boot polish company) that are self adhesive and stick to leather soles. I also came across another Kiwi product that looks like rubber heel and toe taps. I nailed and glued the rubber heel tap pieces on my shoes. Then I roughed up the part of the sole below where the ball of my foot rides, applied contact cement AND exposed the self adhesive on the pad and stuck it to the glued surface...repeat for the other shoe. Good traction and they take some shock out when walking on hard surfaces.

The sole piece is oval and only about one-inch by two-inches so it doesn't stand out. The sole pad looks like thin rubber that's got sandpaper on one side...like the non-slick skateboard and boat surface stuff. No reason those other products wouldn't work either, I suppose.

hello the fire ! when my ankles finally said either we get support or your done trekkin,i got a pair of buskins,in my opinion,i had way better traction in my poppins,so i took my boots to a local cobbler and had him put some dress shoe soles on them, extremly low profile, very unnoticable, and,if i forget what i am doin, still can give me that oh no we're goin down feelin slip sliddin away and the locally famous 20 minute fall

The simplest thing is to just scuff them up a bit. I added iron 'cleats' on the heels, more for wear then traction--similar to my Civil War brogans...
