Yes, Both boots/shoes and moccasins were worn. Fur trade minifests and inventories from Mackinac Island in the early 1800s list hundreds of shoes. Some no doubt were for the French Canadians at Green Bay and a few for the engage's at the posts, but some were probably also purchased (if not worn) by the native customers. For colonial era shoes, I am sold on the shoes from " The Flying Canoe", ( Ihope that is the right name). They are from Canada and are always at Ft. Fred. They are fitted by a BIG man, and my experience was absolutely no blisters from the beginning, without socks. Loyalist Dave, right name, I hope? Bought a pair of Clark's Desert Treks. Center seam design,crepe soles. Better than mocs,more comfortable than buckle shoes. Good on wet grass and snow. Get the beeswax finish | |||
