Numrich has shotgun barrel blanks for sale I believe about .57 cal. and .67 cal last I looked. The .57 would make a dandy boy's (or girl's) gun. Hope this helps. George

Firelock, Most barrel makers offer smoothbore 28 ga and that's small enough for very good light load shooting. Also, there are barrel makers, such as Burton, who will make you a smooth .50 caliber barrel. Ask around and first check the Track of the Wolf catalog. And, while we're on this subject, I think a .410 barrel would be a bit too small. In a .50 or .54 smoothbore you can still load it with 1/2 ounce doses of birdshot and get better close range patterns than with the .410. Easier loading too. Shoot sharp, Mike

problem with the 28 is that many manufactures simply make a 20 gauge barrel with a smaller hole, makes the barrel heavier.

If you look around there are some 28s that are smaller on the outside.

Other thought would be to watch the auction sites for a barrel that you could have someone bore out.

(my two cents... and that is worth a lot less that one would think.)

anything worth shooting is worth shooting once.

"Trade Gun Sketch Book" by Hanson (Museum of the Fur Trade) has plans on using a takeoff .410 bbl to make a Trade Gun.
Pryor Mtn. Bill Newton has a booklet I like, Trade Muskets or Northwest Guns. Both inexpensive.
