Hello guys new to this forum. Hoping to get a little advise. I have a t/c renegade and was wondering if it would be possible to make it into a flintlock? Has anyone done this, can it be done and if so where would I go to for parts and support? Thank you all in advance for your help
You would be better off to sale that one and buy a T/C flintlock,,that is a whole lotta work with everything considered,Barrel, breech plug,+ reworking(can it be done?) the stock & mortice. Sorry to bring this news to you,,Mike
yes it is possible.i have had a new Englander 54 cal converted as well as a fast twist 45 cal.gm barrel that was only made in percussion converted ,as long as the barrel fits in the stock and lines up with the new lock ,my gunsmith cut the percussion part off smooth and tapped the hole ,and of coarse cleaned it up but it can be done
Suppliers like Track of the Wolf and Stonewall Creek can sell you an L&R "RPL" flint lock that should fit your lock mortise. I've seen flint patent breech plugs (same suppliers) that mate to the Thompson Center hooked breech. It may be possible to replace your current barrel's percussion breech plug with a flint breech plug. You'd still be looking at a cost of $200 or more for lock and plug. Like MtnMike and B Staley, I have my doubts about the cost effectiveness, but I think your project is feasible if you decide to undertake it. Good luck, SCL

I agree with all of the above posts about cost effectiveness. The best kinds of rifles that are the easiest and the cheapest for percussion to flintlock conversions are those that use the "drum & nipple" system. On the others with stationary breech blocks or patent breech types, they are actually a much better percussion system and should be left as they are in my opinion. Of coarse anything is possible and it can be done for those willing to spend more money than you will ever get back out of it.
Don't the TC barrels have the percussion system welded or otherwise permanently attached to the barrel? I'm trying to remember my TC Hawken from the 70's... seems cheaper and easier to get a TC barrel already set up for flint and put it into the stock along with a new flint lock. But I agree that leaving as is and finding a flintlock rifle that fits you good would be the better way to go. Good luck in whatever you choose to do.

Thompson sold a breech plug wrench for percussion guns for removing the breech plug, so unbreeching was relatively straightforward (at least in theory).
I've heard that some of the Italian or Spanish made guns were practically impossible to unbreech due to either welding or mechanical interference from the drum or nipple with breechplug threads.

I converted my pedersoli rifle from percussion to flintlock. I know it's not the same kinda rifle but just to let you know it can be done. I also would recommend Track of the Wolf for parts. I actually figured out how to convert it from one of the fellers at the fire here. I believe it was arkansaswind, anybody know what happened to him?
