Fellers, thanks for the kind comments about the fowler & tutorial. The little girl weighs in at exactly 3 pounds. I'm afraid that if I sneeze pretty hard, the barrel will take a bend. Wink She shoulders up very well and sure is a pointer. Since retiring from custom gun building last January, those projects on the wall for the past 30 years are starting to get done. My next project for myself will be a little off-hand percussion with a full maple stock. The stripe in this is absolutely unbelieveable. The stripes are 1/8" apart, even as a deck of cards, for the stock's entire length. Pretty rare stuff for a native Iowa river bottom stick. This one will be brass mounted and a full dresser as far this ol'hoss is concerned. Cheers, Bookie

Hi Steven and all! It's been a long time!
Well, Bookie just keeps getting us amazed at how wonderful a work he does with his guns. All we have to do is watch and yet learn more from you.
Keep them coming, old friend, 'cause you are a public asset now!
Back to the salt mines,
Dr. Fox

Oh, I forgot: Halloween is coming, so here I am posting the picture of my alter ego Jack-the-nice-guy. Ain't he a pretty boy? Big Grin

Hey Chief, one can use that lightweight gun as a fishing rod, too! Big Grin
But you've got to agree: that's one beautiful gun Bookie made!

Back to the salt mines,

Dr. Fox (who has Jack at home)

Hey Al!
I ran!
It suddenly came back to me: there is a Campfire! So when I peaked in, here he was: Bookie and his brand spanking new fowler.
Well, being plain dirty-rotten-mean and nasty s.o.b. myself,(learned that one from Bookie, too! Razzer ), I thought I would post a word or two...

Bookie made one beautiful gun! He is really an asset (not a cursing word) to this community.
I keep learning from him a lot, as should we all. We have to. We must. (my personal opinion).

Had it as a project to make a drilling/reaming bench (similar to the one Steven used to have), but can't get a straight skewed cut along the board for the sliding carriage. I have the head of the bench ready and awaiting installation.

Steven's DVD on rifling and reaming is very informative, and will serve as a good bench reference material, as will the book on the Iowa rifler.

Looked at your projects from time to time as well: good!

Well, it's time for Jack to get back to salt mines: there is work, and more work.
Please convince Bookie to post some more pictures on his work.
I'm sure the 'fire folks will be glad to see them. I know I will.

Back to the salt mines... all work and no play...

everybody, have a good'un!

Dr.Fox (who still got Jack at home)
