Well, I think the estimate is coming in for around $2800, which isn’t so horrible. I bagged a small Montana turkey hen a couple of weeks ago; it only took about fifteen minutes once I started “hunting.” But after plucking and cleaning, I went to get a bag of ice so the bird could ride in the cooler. That’s when I hit the doe. About 4:40, getting dim up here not far from the winter solstice, but I shoulda been paying more attention. Couldn’t salvage any venison, either. I’m still a bit sad about the deer, but we had the turkey on Christmas, and have some soup in the freezer. "Est Deus in Nobis"

Couldn't salvage any of the doe, eh? That's too bad. Glad you got a turkey, though. Beer is proof that God loves us,and wants us to be happy-B. Franklin

Well, that first guesstimate was only labor. Turkey over $1,000 per pound! "Est Deus in Nobis"

$1000 a pound? That's about what a deer usually costs when everything is considered. *Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.*

Years ago, in my squirrel hunting days, I told a neighbor that when you added up the cost of license, Management Area stamp, gasoline to and from the woods, and ammunition that I figured squirrel meat cost about $50 a pound. He thought for a minute and said "Next to bass, that sounds pretty cheap." And went back to waxing his bass boat. Here's a health to the King and a lasting Peace.
