The South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks department is proposing to extend the East River (centerfire) Rifle season by allowing the shooting of anterless deer for a 9-day period beginning with the first Saturday after Christmas. The problem with this change is that this would put the extended anterless season right in the middle of the South Dakota Muzzleloader Deer season which occurs in December and January. Currently, the centerfire season extends into the muzzleloader season for the first 9 days of the season.

The South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks department is taking public comments on the proposed change in the dates of the extended season. I, for one, think that they should extend the muzzleloading season into the centerfire season if they are going to allow centerfire rifles in the muzzleloader season. If you are a South Dakota hunter or a potential South Dakota deer hunter, public comments can be sent to: wildinfo@state.sd.us

In order for your comments to be heard, you must list your name and address and send your message by June 30, 2009.

remember sir, they don't really care how you kill 'em. they want the most effective way to reduce numbers...bows and muzzleloaders are for the masses pleasure...cartridge rifles are for thinning the herd. Its BS for sure...but thats how they think.
