LD I read your post in the firearms section about this book. Started looking for it and found it online for free! Reading the book online in between writing this. Thanks for the post about this book. The link for the book is here: http://www.archive.org/stream/...oog#page/n0/mode/1up
If I really gotta have a hard copy, I'll just print it off! PS.. The book is so old the copyright has expired making it available (legally) to the public.

I'll see the thanks to LD for mentioning the book, and raise you one thanks to you, Kaptag, for posting the link. I will enjoy this.

I purchased the book from alibris.com after reading the post.
It is an excellent book, and I'm glad I bothered to look it up.

Thanks from me as well.

Interesting book. I checked it on the online version. Likely something changed today. I looked up the paperback version this morning and the lowest priced one was $27-something. I checked back and I can get a new copy for $1.98 plus shipping (total of $5.97)--so I did.

The difference seems to be that the more expensive ones are the first run version (1904) and the one I got is a 2004 reprint. Amazon new and used was my source.

...can't wait to read the part about finding a copper coil and copper kettle in the woods with corn mash (i.e. whiskey still) Wink

Um,..., I don't remember Van Dyke finding a still in the woods but it's time I re-read my copy..., although Horace Kephart in Our Southern Highlanders (iirc) does some "revenue" work in that book.

I'm glad folks are reading it. I was a bit skeptical, but I knew the guy did lots of sneaking up on deer so I tried to pay attention to what he taught, I was amazed and humbled.
