the old man dipped his feet into the Pacific surf at La Manzania, México. What, the old man didn't say he was going to the beach? Tsk. The water was not as warm as he liked it, but then the air was hot and sticky. As the surf came up over his knees it felt warmer. The first splash on his ribs made him juke. As he got in to his shoulders he felt warmer. The waves at this pueblo are gentler because the ocean comes into a bay. The old man could bend his knees in the trough in front othe wave and then jump gently and keep his chin above the wave. At Melague or Manzanio he would have been tumble like clothing in a dryer. In fact, the last time he ventured into the ocean at Melaque a young man had to rescue him and assist him out of the crashing waves. That is too much for the old man. After an hour or so of going over waves the old man was satisfied and let the waves assist him to the beach. He pondered how often and how long he would spend in the waves the next day.

I am the old man. And he went out today at 1pm to play in the waves. He lasted a half hour, then had lunch at a beach restaurant with his bare toes dug into the sand. Then he walked 2kilometers up the beach in the surf among sandpipers looking for lunch. He put his sandles on and walked back on the hard packed sand that the retreating tide had left. After a shower he took a well earned nap in his hotel room.

Hiya Volie!!

This here Montana country is locked in snow and ice with nary a warm beach in sight. Almost like being in 'lasky agin! Ya go out tripping around in bare feet here yer gonna frost yer toes fer sure!

Howsomever, I did go out today, after feeding the horses, and split some firewood for the stove. That plum wore me out, so I went in, made a cup of hot chocolate, plopped down in my comfy chair by the woodstove and promptly checked my eyelids for light leaks. Happy to report thet thar wern't none!

I'm looking forward to a warm spring.

Regards, xfox

Xfox, may God grant you the warm spring. My big debate this am was: put on a long sleeve shirt for brkft or let the coffee warm me. Brkft being at outdoor resaurante. Coffee won. Worked, too.

For this old man the entire month of February has been wet and chilly. He wandered out a few times during lulls in the storms, trying to pot a squirrel or two, but in spite of roaming miles of densely forested mountains, he saw nothing.

All the streams are running high and fast, but he went out on the waters twice during the month. Once he took a grandson. At least the boy caught a couple of small fish. The old man only caught a cold.

Today this old man went looking for a new turkey decoy. The rain was coming down in a torrent, but he went from store to store anyway. Three sporting goods stores and he could not find what he wants. Oh, they all had decoys, just not ones that the old man liked, or was willing to pay an exorbitant price for one.
Well, this old man had made his own duck decoys, years ago. Maybe he can make his own turkey decoy.

Today, the old man waited until 4pm to enter the water. With the tide coming in the waves were livelier. When a vertical wall of water came at him he would turn his back and get a nice boot. It was fun. He stayed in for over and hour. He was beat by that time and walked slowly back to his hotel. The old man has one more full day and plans to enjoy the waves tomorrow. Friday he will drive back to the highlands and the esposa.

The old man had a hard time with temperature of the water this afternoon. It seemed colder than the rest of the week. with the moon coming up later the tide was later coming in. The waves did not come at him with verticle fronts. They were more like swells. He could just push off the bottom with his toes and did not get his head splashed. In the morning the old man will breakfast and then check out of his room, get in the old Sienna and climb back up to the central mountains of México and home to la esposa.
