Lots of info today about rocket mass heaters for small home heating. Pondering on the history of the idea. Old hearths could be massive built of stone n brick, chimneys exposed on multiple floors possibly. A fire in the hearth would warm the mass of the stone and gently warm other rooms for hours. Russian n Scandinavian massonary heaters worked on the same principle. Smaller hot fast burning fire to heat the massonary surrounding it to emit soft warmth for hours after the fire died. For a smaller to mid sized home its a very interesting idea if access to wood is easy whether living off grid or just saving money on buying heating oil. I chuckle sometimes listening on how some ideas are new and innovative yet have roots centuries in the past. Curious, anybody live off grid? Or use a mass heater of sorts in their home n how ya like it.
