I got a bunch of zucchini and a crookneck in the veggie dryer. Our tomatoes are as big as marbles now...and those are the cherry or small Romas. Tons of blossoms on the tomatoes, squash...had several cabbage from the garden with another or two ready to pick...carrots coming along nicely. Daikon radishes getting very long. Compost pile is growing nicely as well. We've got our dogs fenced out... Matter of fact, Mrs. Stone refused to plant until the garden fence went up... Asparagus is well up...some of this year's shoots are about 30 inches! I planted some sick looking roots and so far have about eight plants showing from those. Every few days another will pop up. They look pretty anemic and no where near as sprightly as the 'this-years plants.' Hopefully they will be dandy next year.

We've been drying lots of edible 'mum flowers.

Jim, fried green tomatoes are one of my favorite things. My dog (Duke) also eats from the garden, his favorite is the jalapeno peppers, he mostly picks them and plays with them. He is a Texan after all.

Well, this is the first year ever I've had a garden. It was actually my 12 yr old daughter's idea and I'm glad she did all the brain work to get it going. You know how that is...somebody has an idea, Dad has the money & puts work behind said idea. She's participating, too though.

We got ours put in about a month late but have a fair amount of romaine lettuce already, a few peppers, couple cucumbers. Tomatos are starting to produce but I think I ruined the zucchini. Next year we're gonna have to get a different type of broccoli cause the plants we got were pathetic.

I like to roast my tomatoes, jalapenoes, and onions on the grill to bring out a little of the sweetness from the sugars in them. I pull the peels off the tomatoes when they come off the grill and mash them with a potato masher. I like Romas, Porters or cherry tomatoes for this, but any will work. Then I chop up and add the grilled jalapenos and onions with some finely minced fresh garlic, cumin and oregano (go easy with the oregano, you can over do it) to taste, salt, chopped cilantro and squeeze some lime juice in it. If you want to can it, put everything but the last 2 ingredients in a pot on the stove and heat it up to a simmer. Mix in the cilantro and lime right before you can it. You can also add a bit of sweet corn to to the recipe if you like.

Give it a try. I bet you'll like it.
