He hosts a show called "A Taste of History" I enjoy cooking and find the show interesting. He makes food stuffs often on an open hearth or even an open fire that people would have made throughout history. It is truly amazing some of the dinners n meals he puts together over an open hearth fire. Cooking in a primitive way sure doesn't mean eating that way. Well worth checking out. They have a web site under the same name if interested | ||

Yep Chef Steib is pretty good, and his restaurant serves the same food as well. About the only way the colonials who were wealthy could show off was to set a "large and interesting table". George Washington could not afford to import the stone he wanted for Mt. Vernon as that would require him to be mega-rich, but they came up with a faux stone paint for the exterior wood. Washington often complained to his agent in England to stop sending out of date garments to him as he wanted modern stuff. So furnishings and food were about it when you hit "the big time", and food was one way they could do it and not get ripped off. Hence elaborate meals. Ice cream was served by the governor Bladen of Maryland before the F&I, as well as by Thomas Jefferson in later years. Jefferson was always interested in growing new and interesting plants, including edible stuff. Chef Steib shows it wasn't all Hog and Hominy all the time.
