We're going over to Natchez at the end of Sept and going to travel the Trace up to N'ville and thought we would drop by Manskers Station for their fall event. We don't really know what to expect and could use some advice on what to plan for. Anybody been to this event before?

To Pete, I never have been to Manskers station, but one of my buddies was there years ago. At that they were very picky about being pc (ie stich counters etc). You really ne to find some one with current info on that event. It may even be a juried event. It is my understanding you can visit as a spectator with no problems, but if you are planning to participate get more info before you go so you will know what to expect. yours arkansawwind

We are planning to be spectators only. I am supposing they will have vendors and whatnot also.
Although I appreciate the attempt to be "Period correct", especially for a reinactment, I am always amused that the people who want to count stitches seem perfectly content to carry a rifle with machine made parts.

You will definitely want to also attend Daniel Smith Days just a few miles down the road from Manskers in Hendersonville. I'm not sure why these two events were scheduled on conflicting weekends but both will be good doin's I'm sure.

Several of the folks that made Manskers into such a "pc" event have started running the Bledsoe Colonial Fair. It is a really good event, but when I saw one of the sponsors, asupposedly well respected authority on the Eastern Longhunter, drag his fine rifle along the ground behind him like a stick of firewood, I lost alot of respect for him and their so-called "pc" policies. Maybe he can explain his actions when he writes more Pilgrim Journeys.

On a better note, I am new to the community and just wanted to let everyone know that you all do a wonderful job in letting newcomers find information on getting into BP shooting.

instead of hacking on "juried events"(especially if you NEVER been to one),perhaps investing some time/effort into a proper kit and actually attending one would give you a better perspective....I hear a lot of "horror stories" about juried events,stitch-counters,etc...yet, it seems none of you have even looked across the fence(so to speak)...juried,tight events are a blast!! and so are buckskinning rendezvous...methinks it's more "i'm scared of trying to do better" than it is those "stitchcounting nazis" who have issues...

Hi Mitch, I really understand why juried events would be fun and have been to several as a spectator, just haven't been able to participate due to the jury. Its not that I don't invest the time or effort, its that the juried events make this into rich mans sport and I'm just a poor country boy and have to get into this slowly. Regarding my earlier remark, if a group is going to go through the trouble of checking out everybody's dress, then someone drags a custom built rifle across the muddt ground, then it really defeats the purpose of being so picky. I guess this was a case where a stupid action spoke louder than his jury correct dress.

I'm poor working class folk and I have no problem getting into any juried event...and I know who you are refering to and perhaps if you'd have asked him why he was dragging his gun around, you'd have an honest answer and not speculation/judgement....FYI-the dragging thru the mud,etc is often a quick way to put some age/patina on a new item...have fun, it doesn't cost a fortune, but you might have to give up cable tv

If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer.Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away.

firekiller! welcome to the fire.
If anyone wants "age and patina" on any new item,Well hoss I'am at their becken call.I'll age and patina that newness, shinnie, item to old age and well used faster than bugs boys can steal your ponies.Never mind what it is,just sender along,I'll do the rest and get it back slicker than frog fur.Saving those promenant figures the loss of face and all,it's the least I can do.I aint "poor working class",Iam "poor retired class" so I can apply time and energy to this project.

Aquiring a petina of age. Just take your equipment hunting. A few days in the field tends to put a most PC petina on firearms and other equipment. After several seasons hunting in the rain, snow, dragging the firearm through the brush, in and out of vehicles, just promisses the perfect petina.

The stocks of the firearms I've used season after season even take on a different small.

Load fast and aim slow.

Well we rode the entire length of the Natchez Trace and went to both Manskers and Rock Castle. Both were a really good show. Both could have probably been better (especially Mansker's because all of the traders were at Rock Castle) if they had not been on the same weekend, but for us spectators it was great being able to attend both events.

I'm not sure which is the more curious...Grown men and women dressing up and defending the fort from Indians or grown men and women paying good money to watch. Either way a load of fun.
