If you want to see a particular area you are/want to hunt/treck and arn't sure how it lays,go to WWW.TERRAFLY.COM anywhere in the U.S. and follow the instructions. You can get a picture so clear, you can see your house on this sight from space. If you plan to hunt/treck out of state/in state you can plan your trip well in advance,AND IT'S FREE.You can get sattellite PICTURES,or topos on the same sight. What would Lewis/Clark think!!!!!!!!!!Time spent in the woods is a time to be alone, without being loanly.

WC,

Google Earth is another option that has more recent color images. I live just off the face of the known world (near Mayhill, NM), and Terrafly is missing some of the DOQs (aerial photos) for my area. Interestingly, I work for the US Forest Service, and Google Earth has more up to date information than we do. The downside of GE is that you have to download it and install it on your computer, but it allows you to look at 3d images from the side, i.e. across the terrain. Its really cool, but make sure you have a high-speed connection.

Anybody know how often such images are updated? I know the space images that I have used, are several years out of date. It might suck to plan to go to an area, only to find that what looked great was an image from last year, and this year the storm created terrain similar to "fallen timbers", or the creek that is usually passable is undergoing a drought, or conversely discovering the brand new chain of beaver dams. Eeker

First these aren't satellite images. They are aerial photos taken from planes. On the frequency of updates, it depends on where you are. Out here they are reflown about ever 5-10 years.
