Dont know if my "tolerance" has dropped or I just got smarter!!!! Ever see a kid in a pool/lake,lips blue and shivering telling you it's great come on in?????I use to hunt in the morning, cold, dark and early, get out of a warm bed, then had a light come on,I got older!!!!!It's still hunting season in the afternoon,it's warmer, suns up and you can get to your stand without a light.Young guys dont mind coming back camp with the fire banked and the food/coffee hot, someone has to do it.Now I go out about 10am the early guys are coming in to eat or walk around and they are sure to move the deer. When they come back out it's the same thing, deer being moved by them.
It's easy to find the sunny side of the tree and these older but wiser bones dont mine that at all.
NO COTTON,you will freeze smothered in it.Here's one for you, pantie hose, yea I know there for girls however, put them on under your long johns the thin layer the provide is the secret, that is why girls can wear dresses in the winter and not be cold!!!!!Just remember to modify them before you put them on,it will come in handy later.OH you might have to take off your long johns after lights out or take the heat from your buddies.

Lads: So, Atenolol, a blood pressure regulation med, reduces resistance to cold? That is most interesting and explains a lot. I began such meds last fall and felt that I was "colder than usual" all last winter, and now that it is cooling off I begin to notice it again. Amazing what one can learn from you hivernants! Oh, agree entirely on "no cotton" for the cold - it is worthless. Great for cooling off, though. Wool it is for this old gent - works every time.

I'm a real wool fan. Always have been. But last year I read the label on my surplus GI woolies....they only have between 30 and 50% wool! I couldn't get the good stuff anymore. So last year I replaced them with "smart wool." That's merino wool which is soft, wicks well and is warm...but I never minded the coarser wool.

ever heard the term "Three Dog Night"? It wasn't originally a rock band, but the cure. I got a full hair-on tanned Buffalo hide that I take on small group winter outings. Warm at -30.

At 50, I'm not exactly a "good 'ol boy" yet, but I am slowin' down. I notice if I 'aint movin', I will get cold. I don't take any meds, I'm willin' to dye of the first thing that comes along and can kill me. Even in zero degree weather, I can be pretty comfortable with a minimal amount of wool and hide clothing...and a fire. It's when I get home that I get chilled. Somehow, by body adapts to the cold, but when I get back to a warm house, my internal thermostat tells my body it's warm enough it doesn't have to generate as much heat. I can stay chilled for a couple weeks after a three-day trek in the cold.
