Anybody have a good fish tale to share about fishing with forged fish hooks?

I'm thinking about buying a few before the summer fun starts.

Let's see some pictures of the fish in the pan!

Buck,

We did a trek a couple of weeks back here in central Colorado into the buffalo peaks wilderness. We had several beaver ponds to ourselves with lots of wild cutthroat. That afternoon after we set up our camp, were hit with a storm of rain and snow. But we tried our hand at getting some of those trout for dinner. We found some grubs and a few small worms. I used skill thread and small hooks. The line was tied to an old beaver stick. Well its not fly rod, very hard to cast out. I dropped my line in the fast water coming off the damm. Hey I caught one a monster 2" beauty! Well not a good dinner so he was bait. I fished another pool were I put the sneak on 3 or 4 nice pan size, I was getting hits, I just could not set the hook, even pulled them out and they would fall off. No fish for supper this time. It sure a lot harder than it looks.

well, stories about trying to fish with a "forged" fishing hook definately tend to end better than stories about trying to fish with a "forged" fishing lisence....

sorry, couldnt resist...

John Kirk Townsend's narrative (he accompanied Wyeth) gives a pretty good account of fishing. Trout and catfish seemed to be the prey. Cod line was used and attached with two half hitches. Townsend mentions they didn't have fancy rods, silk lines, and flies, so he must have been fairly knowledgable about fishing. The trout averages about 15".

try filing the barb and point area on a forged hook..most I've seen/tried to use are just too bulky to hook well...
