Well, I went on a short scout today (5 hrs) along the Brazos near my training grounds. I identified two beaver lodges, 4 castor mounds - pig, coyote, grey fox, raccoon and deer tracks/trails - I was dressed as a hunter. 3 knifes, shooting pouch and powder horn. I wore my tricorn, caped frock, drop front trousers, linen shirt and straight last shoes. I had a good sized whitetail doe walk broadside to me at about 20 yds (good thing, I ain't starving or one to bend the law much) for about 20 seconds.

But, the neatest thing I did on my scout today was knap my own flint for my fowler - I have often heard about being able to pick up a rock and screw it in my cock jaws and fire the gun. Well, I found a good sized piece of flint, and broke off a nice spall using another rock - placed in my cock jaws and tightened it down and was able to fire 5 aimed shots with it no problem - it was GREAT!!!!!!!

Way cool!!!!

I agree, take a camera along for us. But then again you did go primitive and I undersand that you may want to leave it at home. Great story and good to know there or others like myself down here in Texas taht like to do the same things. Does a man good to get out by himself and do things the old way. I wish we lived a little closer hard to find people to do peroid treking sometimes. Keep posting, love hearing the stories.

That's a beautiful thing. A scout like that is great and knapping your flint too! Can it get any better?
