Hello the fire ! i just returned from a primative firewood cutting camp ! a friend of mine set up a tipi for 2 wks and scouted for standing deadwood to cut up.he found a 22 ft, 1 ft diameter oak tree and cut 2 notches in it,then he called me. I took two 1 man saws and a DOUBLE-BIT axe, Razzer and we went at it !i used the smaller plain tooth to cut the tree down,my buddy watched the tree, then we used the 4.5 ft champion to cut 1/2 of it up (niethr one of us are in shape)we took the cut pieces down to camp, fried some bratwurst, onions, and eggs for lunch, gathered up the tools, and went fishin

since i have a real job and he doesn't,i left him my axe and the plain tooth saw to finish cuttin up the tree and i came home.since we couldn't pick up the tree,we had to saw the first piece off the tree while sittin on the ground,as a matter of fact,we sawed all of it while sittin on the ground, once we got the push-pull thing goin,it went kinda fast,we are gonna do it again, but i'm goin to make some collapseable saw horses to put the tree on,i think it would work better standin up,and i'm also gonna sharpin my 2 man perf lance to cut up the tree. next page

Used to do that with my Dad,Ash trees in Croswell,Mi. He's now gone, but I still have a lot of the wood we cut all those years ago,@ 1500bf.Have moved 4 times and this pile follows me everywhere, wife no longer questions it.
Every time I look at it or build something with it it brings back all those awsome memories, that your little trip will for you.

Chuckles,
Ain't woodcutting great? Nice to get out and use that double-bit axe and saw. With a two-person saw that is sharp, timing between cutters can make the work be pretty darn quick.

"Sawbucks" are quite handy for cutting longer pieces into firewood sizes. Those are the sawhorses that continue the legs up to cross...forming an X that cradles the wood in the top part of the X. However, for bucking the wood up in the field, you might find just putting the piece you are cutting (log butt) onto another chunk of wood to get it off the ground will suffice.

Sparks.

Anyone who doesnt like the smell of fresh sawdust and shavings just isnt living the good life. When I need some "realign" "world get away from me",I head for the wood pile or the woodshop and cut or build something.Swet and sawdust now there is the way to happieness.
You know what Rich People are doing?????? looking out the window of a high rise and wondering where everyone is going,AND why they are staying.Know what the "richer" people are doing, looking out the door, watching the sun set and being satisfied with the day, sharing a cup of coffee with a friend.
chuckles, next time move the camp closer to the woodpile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello the fire ! Hey Sparks,we did do that, still wasn't high enough,we are both kinda tall and stoopin over is outta the question ! and Walking Crow,i'm with on that, but i didn't set up the camp,my buddy has a condition called "can'tbeclosetocampos".This includes firewood, water, game or our iron mules.i don't mind walking miles from the truck, but a couple hundred yrds for water and wood blah ! i could complain but he's deaf in both ears and only hears what he wants to !but we have set up close to public trails and were never found out,so it equals out in the end.he's buyin his own saw now so i guess were hooked i can't wait till next time sawinchuckles

Deaf eh...goes with the territory of using saws for years without hearing protection. Must count for "misery whips" too, not just chainsaws. Wink
