As a spin off of the Fiddlesticks question on a seperate bag / horn for each individual rifle, when you go out for a trek, do you have a seperate "possibles" bag and shooting bag or how do you carry your possibles (not shooting items)?

I've been thinking of getting a seperate possibles bag - if you do use one, what size and type do you feel is a good one?

What I use for the haversack is an oversized elkskin shooting pouch with a divider in it. Odds'n'ends, calls, snacks, etc., go in it. For longer scouts, when I want to build a day camp, I have a snapsack of a German type (Colonial era) which ties off at the top by its own two strap ends to carry all that sort of plunder and utensiles.

Both bags/packs go with any of my guns and nothing changes in their purpose.

thanks for the responses - I was thinking more on the line of a second shooting bag - like Fiddlesticks has mentioned. Maybe a 9x9 size that would hold basically a snack and emergency type items.

When I go out for the day, I have three shoulder strapped bags on me and a small belt bag. I carry a lot of junk, vis. Subway sub, 12 inch, (snicker) 20 oz. bottle of coke, (snort) digital camera, cell phone, short starter, (giggle) and more. Audie will confirm this. I look like I am going on a month's campaign. But I like my creature comforts! I will even take muzzleloader magazine along! I hate being bored. That's why Audie and I have to hunt at different spots, we gab too much.

I carry a shooting bag which holds everything I'll need for my gun. A haversack on the other side for everything else. Don't go too small on the possibles bag, you'll be surprised how much "stuff" you'll need.

I keep a small compass and firemaking kit in my shooting pouches, but that's more for emergencys than actual use. The shooting pouches are for shooting related stuff.
When I'm going to be out more than a couple of hours, I take along a small haversack with some food, bottle of water, and any other essentials I might need.
