Don't really know just where to post this. Its more of an observation then anything else. This morning I found an owl feather down the lower part of my yard and really started to look at it close. Coloration wise its not much different then any hawk feathers I have found in the past, the difference is in the texture of the feather. I couldn't really see the difference until I came out of the subdued light of the shade and into the brighter sun lit area of ther yard. The body of the feather looks as if it is covered in velvet, sort of fuzzy looking, much different in texture and look from ANY feather I have ever found in the past. Most feathers seem sleek n smooth. I've read about how owl feathers are constructed differently so they can glide much quieter at night. Sometimes its little discoveries like this more then the huge vistas that can really make an impression on a person. We all need to remember to actually see what we are looking at or some little detail that could really make yer day ,so to speak, might just slip through the cracks n get lost, live each day with all its sensery input n enjoy life cause its too short to let fly by

Birdman,
Interesting, I did not know that about owls feathers being different in texture. And I can certainly appreciate your advice to "remember to actually see what we are looking at." We miss alot when we don't. Thanks, Keep looking up! (He's coming back) |

You are so correct God gives us each day and it is great to find the treasures in them.

The "fuzzy" on the owl feathers helps keep the feathers quiet-just one more thing the Creator came up with to help this mighty predator..
Ride the high trail....never tuck your tail Your opinion matters...just not to me |

Birdman,
Wow, that is very interesting. Thanks for the insight. You are right about observing the details. The older I get, the more I realize I am extremely poor at observation. While hunting my daughter (now 12) is always pointing out little things that I completely overlook. I am conciously working at improving it every outing. Chasing Crow. |

Pick up any object near you right now and look at it,really look at it.You will see more things you were not aware of than you ever imagined.Look up at the sky,yep clouds so what, look again see the ocean rolling in on a beach, that horse standing there, the bear or old man.We get older and rush everthing and everwhere, then comes our awakening,GRANDCHILDREN,they want to know whats this, that, why is it why isnt it,then we start to see what we are missing and wonder who is teaching who.Stop and smell the roses, ever hear that? I was blessed with four "TEACHERS" ranging from 10 mo.to 8 years sure glad they come along before THIS OLD DOG GOT to old and in to much of a hurry to learn, their closer to the ground and walk slower ever wonder why,it's so the see more that we do and they can point it out and cause us to think and observe.MR.Prestridge, our principal, would call this a "Leaning moment"You can give a lesson on a pencil that could take up a month before you were done covering it.
