Anyone here ever use a pulk/toboggen/sled for towing your gear or downed game on winter hunts and treks?

Yep, winter camps you have a little more gear, like a buffalo robe and when being on snowshoes you don't want be packing more gear on your back. It makes life a lot better in deep snow.

What you want is the narrow 2 plank traine type of toboggan. These are made for pulling loads behind you on snowshoes. It fits in the trail you make. This last winter camp I just pulled my canvas tarp that my bedroll and gear was rapped in. Worked fine.

bufflerrub1880, I'm applying for unit 15 during the fourth season out there in your state, so thats why I'm curious about pulks. That and this past late doe season here in MO/KS liked to wore me out pulling a modern two wheeled cart acrossed crusty snow. I sure wished I had a pulk to slide those fat does out then!
What sorta harness system do you prefer with your toboggen bufflerrub? |

I would think that sleds are ideal where they are suitable. I can't imagine the trials of dragging them through brush or tight timber.

I can't either Sparks. Would be a booger for sure, but then again, carrying anything through thick brush is a rough mother bear at times.

45-120, would happen to have a picture of one? What sort of pulling harness do you use?

[/IMG]Here is one, a sled with runners is not a good idea. It would be cutting into the snow with the weight on it. You are going to using snow shoes so you won't be going though brush with a load. If you would be packing game I'd be deboning it. Nothing fancy for a harness just a long maybe 1/4" rope looped around your shoulders and back of your neck, some padding of some type. Keep It Simple... Warmutt, unit 15 elk? Thats south and west of Glenwood right? Have you hunted here before? Yep you could be in for some good snows there. Thats not far from me. Be ready for the high country! This message has been edited. Last edited by: bufflerub1880, |

Bufflerrub, close as I've been to that management unit so far is Google earth, Gazzeteer and the CO Div of Wildlife website. Wife and I are going hiking/scouting there this August for our anniversery. I'm putting in for a cow tag, and based on the statistics I should draw, they had leftover cow tags last few seasons.
Thanks for the photo! |

Bufflerub1880 ,
That unit is North and east of Glenwood. If I got it figured right the middle of the unit is we're the road thru state bridge runs north towards Steamboar. Woodman This message has been edited. Last edited by: woodman, |

Hey Bufflerub1880,
Didn't you use to be over east of Colorado springs.Or is there two of ya with the same name here in Co? Met ya a couple of years ago over at Creede.Got a couple of brain tans off of ya. Woodman I had to edit my other post about the unit due to looking at my wrong hand.Never been lost just a might confused fir a spell. Warmutt Good luck in your Colorado high country adventure. Most of the speciel draw areas in Colorado are undersubscribed for Cows. The chances of drawing in all but a few(61 and most in the northwest corner) is pretty good especielly if you would pick out three other units in descending order. There are spaces on the application for 4 choices.Usually I draw on my first one but there are times that having other choices listed means the difference between hunting or not.
