The "vegetable tanned" leather I have gotten from Leather Unlimited was white, spongy, and stretchy. I've tried a few times, and all pieces were like this to varying degrees. Definitely no good for belts or straps or knife sheaths... or much anything else. Some of it did OK for leather bags. Just Ok.

Check out Herman Oak vegetable tanned leather. One of the last American run companies. Quality stuff! Been using it for many years and have been very happy with it. http://www.hermannoakleather.com/

I've used Distant Drums Online at: http://www.distantdrumsonline.com/servlet/StoreFront and I've used Tandy and Loads of Leather online too. http://www.loadsofleather.com/ Just ordered 2 sides of 2-3 oz veg tan from Tandy and it was all good leather to me, almost 50 square feet. It is pitiful when a man lets his ego push his intelligence beyond his ignorance.

Lads - I have had excellent success with Kentucky Leather and Hide, both with mail order and in person at events. Nice folk, great leather and very helpful. Put their name in your browser and their website will come up. Col Boone
