Recently, I bought some real good leather but they sent me the wrong color. I could send it back, but I was wondering if I could bleach it? It is black, and it was supposed to be natural, not dyed at all. If I can, I would like to try soaking it in bleach? I have never done that before, and I was wondering if any of you yahoos have done that?

don't try to bleach it...black is one of the hardest colors to remove and you could end up with a nasty green...I have used rit dye remover(basically a bleach)on chrome tanned cheeto yella hides and had great success...only tried 2 black hides-both with "interesting" results! if you plan to re-dye the black leather, a dye remover job MAY do it-I'd try a small sample first or just send the hide back and get what you ordered.

hey sawbones, sorry to say that you cannot bleach it. i am a leather smith and the hide you got is drum dyed, that means it is dyed all the way thru to keep a uniform color. the best thing to do is contact the company you ordered it from and return it. sorry old man.
watch your top note and keep your powder dry

Nope, send it back.If they sent the wrong color they should cover the cost of shipping it back. Then to Ive had some companins say keep it free gratas and they send the correct order and call it done.Black is the most difficult color to do let alone trying to undye it.

In other words, send it back, or your screwed! Have bought ALOT of leather over the years(saddle building among other things) and you DONT wanna get leather Darker than what you want! You can stain or dye it darker, but you cant bleach it out enough to make it work
