Here are a few items that I've finished that will go to the spring shoot and will be on my blanket... This bag is out of very nice bucktanned leather, about 4 oz with a pewter button. Sua Sponte ![]()

one more. This is a hunting bag in the style of 1700's frontiersmen... out of the buffalo I got last year, but with some 'waterproof' finish on it. Trying some BEAR Leather Dressing for the first time. In their words from the can, "Finland's Internationally Famous..." blah, blah. Well, I had never heard of it till I got some. Supposedly, it nourishes and waterproofs leather. It does look and feel nice on the leather, but we'll see what kind of waterproofing it gives. This message has been edited. Your work looks good, hoss. I got a can of that Finnish leather treatment. I think I ordered it with some other things from one of the bushcraft suppliers in Britain. Anyway, it smells pretty strong. Understand that we are a family that owns dogs and horses. The two shepherds are in with us when we are in, and out when we go out. Our living room has three saddleracks in it, along with bridles, girths, and a stack of saddlepads in various conditions of use. The point here being that my wife and I have a high tolerance for smells. However, that can of Finnish leather treatment was permanently banished to the garage. In any event, your kit looks good, and I appreciate the opportunity to get a look at it. ADDENDUM: I went back to investigate this, and here is the Finnish leather balm I bought: Wilmas kängskosmorning Leather Conditioner. I think it's the tar in it that smells so bad, but I believe it really does have bear grease, also, which probably contributes. While I was looking for the Wilmas kängskosmorning Conditioner online, I also found this: Finland's Bear Grease Leather Conditioner & Waterproofing. The item description indicates a "premium petroleum base" and says it is a "blending of petroleum and natural waxes," and it is not clear whether it actually has bear grease in it or not. I think the "Bear Grease" on this item may be just a trademark. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I may just order a can and try it out. It can't possibly smell worse than the Wilmas kängskosmorning product. Best regards, Notchy BobThis message has been edited. Thanks guys, I appreciate your kind comments. Bob, I agree with you on this product. I don't think there is real bear grease... maybe bear poop in the stuff you were describing... hehe. At any rate, this particular product doesn't smell all that bad. It doesn't have the pleasing aroma that Aussie Leather Conditioner (by Fiebings) does, but like I said, it goes on easily and does make leather look and feel nice. I put some on my belt, knife sheaths and belt bags and they look nice. Birdman, you need to try to come down to our spring shoot over Memorial Day. We put on a good shoot and there is always good chow available. Let me know if you are interested and I'll make sure you get an announcement when they come out. Sua Sponte

MountainRanger, you created some excellent leather gear. I tinker around with it from time to time but not quite at your level. *Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.*
